Pitzenberger points to one story in which an emergency vehicle manufacturer was looking to increase its volume on four large weldments.
Ryerson produced two units per month at max output, with three being produced by a different supplier. However, quality issues began to arise with the latter supplier.
Luckily Ryerson was able to step in to take the place of the other supplier and produce four additional units per month at a different Ryerson manufacturing location. “This is a powerful example of how we can move capacity around the organization to level load and overall increase output to the customer.”
